The problem of missing children is complex and multifaceted. There are different types of missing children including family abductions; endangered runaways; non-family abductions; and lost, injured, or otherwise missing children. When the public hears of a missing child case, it is generally involving one of the estimated 115 child victims of the most serious, long-term non-family abduction called “stereotypical kidnappings”.
The best national estimates for the number of missing children are from incidence studies conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. To date two such studies have been completed.
The first National Incidence Studies of Missing, Abducted, Runaway, and Thrownaway Children (NISMART-1) was released in 1990, and the second, known as NISMART-2, was released in October 2002. According to NISMART-2 research, which studied the year 1999, an estimated 797,500 children were reported missing; 58,200 children were abducted by non-family members; 115 children were the victims of the most serious, long-term nonfamily abductions called “stereotypical kidnappings”; and 203,900 children were the victims of family abductions.

This accidental theory is just about one of the most outlandish ones that I have heard out of all of them.
Why if God forbid that dear child had an accident and died, wouldn't her parents just call for help and request an ambulance?
It does not make sense.
Why if they had killed her and wanted to hide the body would they then go on to choose to include half of PDL 7 of their friends, filmakers and journalists, the Pope, 2 priests, fisherman and at least 4 members of the British government in their conspiracy to pervert the course of justice?

You are right, this is a dreadful situation, to have your child taken and not know where she is and then to be blamed for it must be painful beyond words, my heart goes out to this family
But they should keep hope because I still just feel that they will get Madeleine back soon, I don't know why, I just feel it.
Words cannot express how angry I am with the Portuguese police, their incompetence is staggering and yet they would still rather try and blame the McCann's by way of leaks and smears.
Apparently they have now leaked that the 2 of the friends want to change their story, I do not know how many times I have read this now, yet they still trot it out every so often.

I am always astounded by the increasingly stupid theories and the complete lack of evidence to support them, unless of course one takes only selective leaks from the PJ, ignoring the rest, and then ask ridiculous questions that apparently prove that the theory is correct.
I watched a show recently on Discovery/Nat Geo/ not sure but it was about conspiracy theories. If you can only create or support a theory with unanswered questions, then it is not a theory, it is fantasy. Apparently a sign of conspiracy theories, is that they always pose questions instead of stating a hypothesis and then finding evidence to support it.
Does any of this sound familiar?
China, I know you dont agree with Isis but the fall theory is one of the more sensible theories but where it completely falls down is how was the 'body' disposed of. If we go away from the abduction theory, the most likely explanation is that Madeleine wandered off and either met an accidental death (but then where is the body) or was then abducted (which would explain why there is no body). But then that in itself means that a big coincidence took place that an abductor just happened by and found her wandering, so took her. While possible, it is not likely.
In my mind, most likely theory is targeted abduction, reason unknown, persons unkown.

And I see that Eyes thinks that the McCanns are telling the truth and she has thought that all the way through. I went through some of her other cases and was surprised that I agreed with most. Not sure about John Ramsay though. I really thought he didnt do it but Eyes says he isnt telling the truth. It did cross my mind years ago, that John did know who killed Jonbenet but for some reason was covering. Eyes doesnt say that but she also doesnt say that John did it either, just that he is lying.

I have said before I totally agree with you, it was an abduction and for a reason or money but not at all a 'normal' if I can be excused for using that word, type crime, This has a lot of deep secrets. Too many people involved, too many coincidences. Far too many. For such abuse to be hurled with no PROOF at the McCanns meakes me suspect in a major way, those that accuse to deflect blame from something that has been going on for some time.

Back on the conspiracy theories, I have been sucked in by a few. I used to think that the US govt was hiding UFO's (but hey I was a teenager), now I think they dont know what they are either. Although I love Stargate, I really dont think that anything has happened, like Eisenhower is meant to have made a treaty with the Greys. I mean, really, what a load of tripe.
Also, got into Kennedy Assassination and do not subscibe to one bullet theory. that is the most telling evidence against Lee Harvey Oswald. I think the real evidence is still out there and I dont think was a govt conspiracy.
And liked the Holy Blood and Holy Grail (what the Da Vinci code was taken from ) but although they raise many questions, I dont believe they adequately answered their own theory. There is much to support their theory but the authors used way to many questions in support of their hypothesis for my liking. I do however think they are onto something but it will never be proven, so will always just be a matter of faith.
Just thought I would bore you with some of my favourite conspiracies.

I agree with most of what you write. Just not sure how far it goes. It has occurred to me over the last few weeks that perhaps the McCanns were a victim of circumstance and that their problems with the PJ, are only because the PJ are trying to make themselves look good in the eyes of the world, not that there is a larger conspiracy.
But still I think that Madeleine may have been abucted as part of a larger child trafficking ring. It doesnt necessary follow that any of the PJ are complicit in this at all. It may just be their poor results (and possible practices) that have them gunning for the McCanns.
Not sure, I keep changing my mind over the larger picture.

Since time immemorial, conspiracy theories have abounded.
As with figures and mathematicians, words and stories can be manipulated/bent to the authors view.
Nothing has changed.
A different audience and a differnt baying crowd - that is all.
It is human nature, that people believe in what they want to believe in and will adjust/bend information to suit.
Unfortunately, this is the way of the world and some people would not acknowlege the truth if it smacked them in the face.

My rational logical head says that the PJ are not complicit here, but then it only takes one or two.
I would still like to know what is happening in the Casa Pia trial which is being heard in secret apparently? How can a case of such magnitude be held behind closed doors? If I were Portuguese I would be wanting this out in the open and I would want to know exactly what is happening.
None of us like to think that perhaps we have bent policeman but it would not be the first time that the police have been guilty of perverting the course of justice.

Corrupt policeman are the bane of all countries. But it is countries where the people and the system refuse to see that the corruption exists, that are the most at risk. We (US, UK, Aust, NZ, Canada and of course many others) all came to terms with this many years ago and although we make a big effort to stamp it out, it continues to return again and again.
I dont know if there is any corruption in the PJ involved with Madeleine's case but as you tell us so often, there are procedural issues that need to be addressed, if for no other reason than to give confidence to the people of Portugal and the rest of us, that the PJ have acted to the best if their abilities and in Madeleine's best interest.
The type of open inquiry that is needed will also bring out corruption issues, if a 'whistleblower' protection policy is put in place to protect any witnesses. We have one here, and it has been used numerous times with the police and other govt agencies.

From what a well respected Portuguese poster told me, it was not the bent policemen, but bent twisted politicians and their ilk/type, that were responsible for Casa Pia.
Indeed, the Portuguest police, in this instance, exposed same.
I do hope that justice will prevail, for darling Madeleine, her family, loved ones, supporter and friends.
My final plea/prayer, is that somehow, we can work together, put all the nastiness behind us and move forward, to find the truth.

bang on. If this sorry sad confused mess has taught us anything it is to look so very hard at anyone around kids. I too have had suspicions about folk just walking to me 'too close' behind young girls, and stopped my car to look and check. That is one good thing to come out of this, we are all so very acutly aware now of how little time is needed, just few seconds of 'opportunity'.
Sad, but true. This enhanced awareness though can only be good.
