"The Daily Express today takes the unprecedented step of making a front-page apology to Kate and Gerry McCann."
We do so because we accept that a number of articles in the newspaper have suggested that the couple caused the death of their missing daughter Madeleine and then covered it up.
We acknowledge that there is no evidence whatsoever to support this theory and that Kate and Gerry are completely innocent of any involvement in their daughter's disappearance.
We trust that the suspicion that has clouded their lives for many months will soon be lifted.
As an expression of its regret, the Daily Express has now paid a very substantial sum into the Madeleine Fund and we promise to do all in our power to help efforts to find her.
Kate and Gerry, we are truly sorry to have added to your distress.

Viv has said openly on her blog that the McCann's had killed their little girl, no id's buts or maybes and this is the person that she is asking for legal advice? I think they have all seriously lost the plot.
I think Alsabella is going to get into serious trouble here.
Honestly, you could not make some of this stuff up! As i said earlier I want to go on and ask any reasonable person to email Alsabella and come back and clean her blog up, but I would have been abused, insulted and deleted so didn't bother.
Thing is for a lot of this time her alleged friend Claudia was present and did she try and stop them, to try and her her friend out?

Was just reading something about The Star of Madeleine. That author is so obviously just trying some get rich quick scheme. He has never worked on the case. Why anyone would even consider buying that tripe and encouraging such greed for personal gain only is beyond me.

Well apparently Alsabliar and Clottier have read it and said it is not libel.

Mostly it is the owner of a forum or blog that is sued for allowing libellous content. It is up to the owner to moderate the site. Bit like the DE really with their forum. Of course it is possible to track down individual posters....but it would be very time consuming. I think in the case of Alsabella's and Viv's....if they are reported....then they will take the wrap.

Something that has been on my mind all day. The McCann's lawyers...they must have been in contact constantly with the Portuguese authorities dealing with this case. Do they know more than they are letting on? Do they know the PJ have no evidence? Do they know it is only a matter of time before the suspect status is lifted?

This has been irresponsible journalism, with over a hundred articles with false allegations about this couple.It is a shameful day for British journalism and is a token amount when you consider the emotional distress that you have subjected this family to,on top of the abduction of their daughter.
You have colluded with your Portugese counterparts, using leaks from Portugese Police, to discredit this couple, all to sell newspapers.
There is not a shred of evidence in the public domain and the Guardian newspaper announced timelines.today, saying that on February 3rd, the Police Chief, Alipio Ribeiro, said that detectives were too early in making the Mccanns suspects.
On February 10th, Portugese Police announced that they have no evidence against the couple
February 13th Portugese Justice Minister says that the enquiry is nearly over.
You have now done the decent thing and apologised and said you will help further.
Could you make a start please by naming your sources, so that the Portugese newspapers and leaking Portugese Police, can also be sued?
Can you also release e mail addresses of your forum posters, who have defamed and libelled this couple, so that they can also be sued.?
This is the least that you can do.
THis has been trial by media and I have never seen anything like it, in my lifetime and never hope to again..

You say you want to help this couple, you could start by exposing the sheer amount of police bungling and leaking that has led to this disgraceful set of circumstances.
This whole thing has been like a circus.
perhaps you could start by doing some proper investigative journalism into why an ex detective from the Portuguese Policia Judiciaria has been allowed to write and publish a book about Madeleine, making money to feather his own stinking nest.
Former Portuguese Police chief Paulo Cristovao, wrote the book called The Star of Madeleine.
Paulo Cristonao is himself and arguido facing a court trial over the alleged torture of Leonor Cipriano the mother of another missing girl from the Praia da Luz area.
If I were a journalist I would be asking how this man got his information, who gave it to him?
How could he be allowed to write such a prejidicial book about a couple that have not even been charged of any wrong doing?
Why do the secrecy laws of Portugal seem only to be applied for the good of the PJ?
how come these leaks from the PJ be allowed to go unheeded?
When did the PJ actually stop looking for Madeleine? On whose say so and why did they stop looking?
How about finding this out?
How could a female journalist managed to get hold of sensitive information, like the names and addresses of witnesses, their land and mobile numbers and copies of their witness statements.
And what disciplinary action was take in the PJ by the Portuguese government to find out who was doing this?
In any other civilised decent society there would be a government inquiry into this farce of an investigation, why doesn't the DX start a crusade for this?
This may actually help the McCann's.
I think this has gone on far too long, the treatment of these poor people is nothing short of barbaric and it cannot be allowed to continue.
Enough is enough.
Where is Madeleine? what did the PJ do today to find her?
I have never seen anything like this disgraceful shambolic inhumane chaos in my life and I hope I never witness it ever again.
I will also never visit Portugal until they can manage to drag themselves up into this century and I know at least 50 people who feel exactly the same as I do.

At last!! Now maybe people's ideas and opinions might not be tainted by headlines designed to sell papers and increase their owners profits!
I'm not sure though that many of the people posting on some of the other blogs (especially the two more notorious ones!) are either a, sane or b, interested in innocent until proven guilty (and if any of them have any legal training, as claimed, then I'd be worried if I were their client!)It strikes me that for many of these posters it's just too much fun to continue kicking a person when they're down!
Anyway, it's Thursday night here - yay, work is over for five whole days - I love it when Easter falls in the middle of a school term! Will look forward to reading everyone's posts tomorrow morning! Have a great day!!
Good morning Rosiepops and others. Tried to enter your blog after the comments on the production of Paulo Cristovao's digraceful book but PC said "unable to raise this page". Was this a problem with my computer or not? Clicked on the next items 'comments' and as you can see was accepted. was this just a PC malfunction or what? Was concerned your blog may have somehow been permanently blocked by some "Evil Force" ie. Alsabella lot for instance?

Just read the post by Melbel in the DX and I must say it was excellent, truthful. to the point and left no stone unturned. I hope her request that the DX release posters Email addresses so they can be taken to court is an admirable suggestion and hope the Express respond accordingly. That is the least they can do for the McCann family. Should they refuse to do so, if the PJ can get away with all their imoral leaks why not some 'Mole' in the DX doing likewise? Just a few of the Nastier ones would suffice, say ten or more starting with 2345!

Yesterday I looked into Alsabella's Blog and read 2345's post in which she reassured her fellow bloggers "Don't worry about these threats (of being sued) I shall be there to help you all out!
