EX PJ Officer Author of Book About Madeleine McCann

Paulo Cristovao, who is facing trial over torture allegations, describes how missing Maddie did not survive May 3, 2007 – the night she vanished.

His book, The Star Of Madeleine, is based on the real cop investigation. It stops short of saying who is responsible, but drops clues. He says the McCanns decided she was kidnapped without considering she may have walked out of their holiday flat.Retired inspector Cristovao mysteriously claims two of the couple’s holiday pals – the so-called Tapas Seven – are “fundamental” to discovering the truth about Maddie, four.In the preface he writes:

“For legal reasons I, as the author, cannot tell you what the truth, the reality of this case, is. I can, however, assure you that you can find it here, in the lines of this book.”

The novel ends with two fictional coppers gazing out at the Atlantic Ocean following a huge land search.

Cristovao and four other cops stand trial later this year over the case of another missing girl. He is accused of torturing her mum into a false confession of murder.

Last night Kate and Gerry's spokesman said:

“It’s a great shame that people still want to make money out of Madeleine’s situation.”

DisgustingA friend of the couple, from Rothley, Leics, added: “This man is a suspect himself, having been accused of beating up a woman to make her confess to killing her daughter.“He is hardly a reliable source. To bring out a book about Madeleine is just disgusting.”Cristovao, whose book was launched yesterday, angered the couple last year by claiming they should have been arrested for leaving their kids alone at Praia da Luz.

The Sun

What do you think of the fact that while Portugal effectively gags two people who have not been charged with any crime, with archaic Secrecy Laws, yet allows and Ex Police Chief to write and publish a lot of spurious unsubstantiated nonsense WHILE HIMSELF AN ARGUIDO, WAITING TO FACE TRIAL OVER ALLEGATIONS THAT HE PLAYED A PART IN THE TORTURE OF ANOTHER PARENT OF ANOTHER MISSING CHILD?

  • Do you think this is right?
  • Do you think this is just?
  • Do you think this is the way a country should behave?
  • Do you think Portugal should be part of the EU while allowing this kind of behaviour
  • How much longer is this going to go on for?
  • How much longer can Portugal get away with treating people so appalling in what appears to be an extreme abuse of their human rights?
  • Do you think it is time that Portugal held a full and OPEN inquiry into this bungled investigation?
  • Do you think the UK government shold now take a pro-active stance and force Portugal to act over this appalling set of circumstances?
  • What do you think? Have Your Say .

Hiya China

It's OK thanks. We have visitors from tomorrow till Monday.

Hope you are having a good un!

chinadoll said...

Janegt,

Just to expand on my last comment to you.

I am saddened that the Portuguese people have already been ridiculed throughout the world over the handling of this case - that is not their fault.

From what I hear, it is a beautiful country, with much culture and heritage.

Although it is in the early stages of a democracy, it still has much to learn and we are seeing how much of an uphill struggle the country is facing, through the handling of this case.

I agree, that political pressure should be applied to encourage the country to modernise, but not to the detriment of the people.

Hope that makes sense.

chinadoll said...

Thanks Sassyp,

I and mine, have had a lovely start to Easter.

'Snow not lying' how do you know Jane? Did it swear on the bible?

For those who may be forgiven for believing that I am a drunk, nothing is further from the truth. I drink only occasionally, so relatively speaking it only takes 3 or 4 (bottles!!!!) drinks to give me a hangover.

Hiya all

Rosie, can we expect you to disappear on around April 6 if the PJ's are showing up on April 7, 2008, of course?

Do you think the other blogs will notice you're not on and comment about your whereabouts?

Will we be having a repeat of the other day? When it was announced the DE and other papers would be issuing a front page apology to Kate and Gerry?

It is always a shame when the population of a country is judged by its government or governmental institutions. I know it is the people who, unless it is a dictatorship, choose the government, but frankly is there any political party that does a good job? It's generally a case of choosing the lesser of the evils, not a party you think would actually be good!

Rosiepops said...

Well I hope this avatar suits you all and I trust some smar Alec is not going to say that they have hay fever it has to go! lol

The Candy Floss blog really sucks said...

Hiya Archer

Where I used to live (mountain farm in Eastern Tyrol) if you go out people yell at you! There was someone who got involved in a car accident on Good Friday a couple of years ago and all the people on the various mountain farms said was, "He shouldn't have been out on Good Friday anyway!".

Sassyp,

Our Country has a proud history, but has made many mistakes along the way. IMO, Portugal is a fledgling in terms of a true democracy.

They will catch up (hopefully) but only by learning by their mistakes and IMO, this is a mistake they should and will, remember and ensure it is not repeated.

It's really extreme there! I have seen people in their twenties, who are doing jobs that their parents would never have considered (e.g. a man looking after a handicapped child - so not traditional in that sense) completely losing their rag with teenagers who managed to somehow get out on Good Friday!

The Candy Floss blog really sucks said...

Every country makes mistakes - no country is perfect. The difference is that some countries admit to that and others don't! Look at the posts that come from some Portuguese posters - they try and rubbish Britain. I don't know anyone who says that Britain doesn't have problems - they would be laughed at if they did - but by saying, for example, someone was kidnapped in Britain doesn't change the fact that Madeleine is still missing in Portugal!

That "argument" thrown about so often by Claudia-that-vicious-moron and Arsabliar used to crack me up. How totally illogical!

Someone says "your country is worse than mine" doesn't mean the one that is less bad is actually good! It still makes it bad!!!

It's sounding confused, but you know what I mean - I agree with what you wrote!

SeaWitch said...

Rosie,

Are you calling me a Pig?! Or a halibut?!

LOL. Yes, I like ham, are you cooking? Let's have it with Eggs Benedict, 'cos China's made me hungry.

SASS I agree. the stance of my country can do no wrong is stupid and shortsighted in the extreme. We know our country has faults, we admit them, open them up, criticise and analyse. their arguments used to drive me nuts and they kept repeating them almost as much as 4567.999....AAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGHHHH

I don't get the Ham reference - is Rosiepops cooking ham for Easter???? I am baffled, not for the first time you yell, no .....accepted. ;o(((

archer said...

Hi Mum

Look what I did ??? lol

Clever huh....

chinadoll said...

Yes Sassyp,

I know where you are coming from.

In my opinion, the Portuguese posters that we are familiar with, are not representative of their country.

They are representative of their pj.

I learnt a lesson from one particular Portuguese poster, who was honest through and through and I think you know who I am talking about.

As for the attitude of others, we all know, that attack is the easiest form of defence.

And that speaks volumes.

However, nationalism, is a strong force, something, I believe, we could do with rediscovering.

Going back to Portugal....if the institutions are corrupt, fighting same is an uphill battle - which will not be won overnight.

Mum21 said...

You are clever Archer...well done.

Hi To Everyone

I ws reading back over today's comments and the bit about Malinka being beaten has raised a question in my mind.

How is it that he was questioned without a lawyer present? Same as Leonora? A suspect cannot be beaten infront of their lawyer. Surely the PJ are not interrogating people without proper legal counsel. Not that I have any personal experience but I thought that in Aust, UK, US etc, that the suspect is offered legal counsel prior to interview to ensure that the interview results are not excluded from any resulting court proceedings. Especially in serious crimes.

If this is the case, then there are many questions to be answered and long past time for an internal inquiry in Portugal.

good evening nice to be on at same time for a change

Yes, the whole system seems to be run by their 'own' rues which is not right at all. It allows them to manipulate the evidence they 'want' to appear......and use 'their means' to get it.

Not right at all. Something has to be done about this. After this case being brought out, I trust it will very soon.

chinadoll said...

Is HelenM seriously trying to convince us she is off to bed lol lol lol?

Perhaps she is just sleep walking?

Mum21 said...

Diane,
I may be wrong..but I do believe I remember alsa saying that in Portugal they are not entitled to have a lawyer present. I thought she said the McCann's had special treatment by being allowed to have a lawyer present.

Can anyone remember this?
Or did I dream it?

Rosiepops said...

Blimey Tinks have you been on the same stuff that Helen was on yesterday?

Rosiepops said...

Mum

Anonymous said...

Yes ROSIEPOPS

I remember that too re the lawyer not being allowed.....the antis did not like it either and posted their irritation at McCanns treated differently.....

chinadoll said...

Diane,

Well said.

What have the investigating officers got to hide?

Certainly, not evidence.

Why the truncheon tactics?

Underhand and desperate, springs to mind.

Rosiepops said...

Hi Diane

how are you, are you just getting up?

Anonymous said...

Hi Diane, sorry for the noise on here a noite.

If I remember rightly Alsabella informed us that 'witnesses' are interviewed without legal counsel. I think Kate Mccann when she was interviewed the first time in Portimao did not have legal counsel in the room with her, althoughhe was present at the headquarters. It was only the next days questioning when she was made n arguida that he was allowed in.

I think you will find that in the UK police can also interview witnesses without legal counsel, but obviously the difference here is that the 'witness' has a choice.

Mum21 said...

Yes, that is what I remember too Jane.
But as Rosie says....that may have just been Alsa's law.

She is THAT sick.

Anyway, the reason for my post to your. I was sitting here feeling sorry for myself when I saw your post about notdoc and prat. The bit about POTB not being a real rat, made me laugh out loud.

Tinkerbell43 said...

Murat has also allegedly described his own experience with the PJ as "not being very pleasant"!. Even down to allegedly being given just a glass of water during 19 hours of interrogations.

Rosiepops said...

That is not new either apparently according to Leonor cipriano's solicitor Jaeo Grade, Leonor was interviews for 46 hours with only a 2 hour respite and a confession obtained, while she was forced to kneel on broken glass ashtrays WITHOUT her solicitor present.

As soon as her solicitor discovered she had confessed the next day, the statement was withdrawn immediately.

But The Law According To Alsabliar, thinks this is OK and that her sainted PJ, never did this, strange that Leonor's Solicitor wasn't there and can testify to this isn't it?

chinadoll said...

That's right

and may I add, that it was a Portuguese lawyer advising/insisting Kate did not answer certain questions.

Perhaps he was more au fait with the system and knew where the line of enquiry was leading.

Kate relied and depended on the Portuguese lawyer and ever since, the Portuguese have done nothing but rip her to bits.

The Portuguese lawyer - an expert in the law of the land, advised Kate to keep schtum.

Ever since, she has been criticised for following Portuguese legal advice.

We are having Indian for tea tonight, down on the river bank. We both won meat trays at the local raffle. We are having home cooked,
Beef Madras
Tandoori Chicken (done in the bbq)
Rice and Veges (for the kids)
Naan bread

And I think some Champagne followed by a bottle of red.

How does that sound?

What is wrong with your dog?

chinadoll said...

Diane,

May I just bid you goodnight.

Not many people have what you have got on your plate and I for one, do not wish to add to it.

Keep strong Diane.

Rosiepops said...

Diane it sounds lovely, but I have weirdly lost my appetite, even though I feel like I have eaten non stop for ages!

WOW Diane...don't worry about us in this freezing cold weather...as you sit on the river bank supping champagne.

Muffy (that is our sick dog) was a bit wobbly on Thursday but only after she stood up, then seemed right. My partner said she never ate her food on Thursday either. I also noticed on Wed afternoon there was puke around the yard, and again on Thurs and then again of Fri.

If it was a bait, she would have been very sick straight away, same with snake bite or spider bite.

I am hoping it is an inner ear infection but the reason I am so worried it that she hasnt eaten for two days and when she tries to drink, she falls over sideways, as well as cant walk properly.

Anonymous said...

Diane, I'll have some of that but can I miss out on the champagne and red wine, don't think I'll be forgiven again.

So sorry to hear about your dog, they become so much part of the family don't they?

Mum21 said...

Diane,
I asked because I once had a dog with the same symptoms. It turned out she had swallowed a stone.

When we are worried and stressed its so easy to think the worst - hopefully she will be ok. I will be thinking of you.

Living on the riverbank is why we moved from Brisbane to outback NSW. That and to be close to my family.

There are drawbacks though. We have a shortage of doctors (my town cant even get one, not even an imported one). There is no paediatrician in our nearest city, the local ENT specialist will not treat my daughter so we have to periodically travel to Adelaide. You cant get a vet over Xmas or Easter, or any long weekend for that matter. Fresh seafood is very expensive. So is petrol. Petrol has just hit $1.50 a litre over Easter. It went up 15c on thursday.

Childcare is hard to get but I am lucky I have Mum. Actually, without her I wouldnt be able to work. My daughter is not to go into Daycare with other children, as there is too many colds and flus and things that are too dangerous for her. She does go to pre-school but that is better, as they dont allow sick kids there.

But all in all, I love it in the country. When I go to the supermarket I always see someone I know for a chat. In Brisbane in 9 years I only ran into people I knew a handful of times. So I dont miss the big city, except for the shopping. I used to work in the centre of Brisbane and of course shopped as often as I could. I think my partner is secretly glad that I work from home now. No more lunch time shopping.

Sorry for hogging the space on the blog.

Mum21 said...

Well ladies...I will bid you good night.
Sleep well and God Bless.

Diane,
Could you leave a message on here as to how your dog gets on at the vet's.
Thanks.

I have been flitting back and forth so didn't catch your earlier post regarding your dog.

I am so sorry, I know exactly what you are going through, having gone through this a few weeks back.

I had to take the decision to put my big old boy border collie to sleep and it was hard but I console myself with the thought that we done what was best for him, not us. I still miss him badly but am remembering the good times.

Everyone on and the DX was so kind to me and helped me through, so you let us help you if the worse comes to worse. xxx

Regards to rat she just looks like one, apparently she hasn't been seen for the past couple of days, looks like she has deserted her own sinking ship, or perhaps she detects the anti ship is going down?

She did have some meat from the neighbour on Wed but we pulled all of the bones out, as both of my dogs have a tendency to gulp down any meat, bones and all.

We did think that it may be something like that (bone???). She is in pain. And I am trying not to think the worst.

Thank you and everyone else for your kind words.

Will leave message with outcome.

Rosie

I remember when you had to put down your beloved dog. I was very sad for you. I have done it before a few times and it never gets easy. Sometimes I think it is better when it is an accident and you have no choice.

Incidentally, my other dog is a 4you black & white border collie called Cassie. And she has one black and one white patched eye. She is smart and quite naughty

My partner is back from the Vet, with the dog, will let you know in a minute what it is

Diane...Just keep us informed please. Many of us on here are also great dog lovers. I could not be without my two labradors...they are the best friends in the world.
Poppy...my female...is sleeping here on my feet now. Snoring her head off.
I will be thinking of you.

My little dog is called Cassie!
cassie wassie woo woo, girly whirly curly!

dianeh said...

Everyone

Good news on the dog front.

She has an acute pancreas condition brought on by the lamb chops the neighbour gave her on Wed. Apparently too fatty.

Vet said that we were right to be worried, as this kills. BUT also if treated in time is very easy to fix. So after a couple of needles and some other medicine, Vet expects Muffy to pick up a lot by tomorrow and almost back to normal by Tuesday.

between us, my partner and I had a fight about taking Muffy to the vet this morning. He reckoned I was overreacting. He just sheepishly admitted that I was right and Muffy wouldnt have lasted till Tuesday.

Men !!!!!

Diane, stayed up for the news. So glad to hear that with careful nursing he will get better. Pancreatitis is a very painful condition in humans, I'm sure it must be the same for dogs. In young men especialy it can prove fatal,(usually these men have been binge drinking, to bring on this condition) A lesson to us all.

Enjoy the rest of your day with your family.

Diane,

Your lifestyle sounds idyllic. How wonderful to have so much space and freedom.

I adore my dogs. Whenever I am not working, they go everywhere with me. Dogs are the most trustworthy, uncomplicated, non-judgemental companions who never let you down in the same way that humans tend to.

I’m glad your little friend is on the mend x

Goiodnight, everyone x x

To all of you who care about things, even my dog.

Thank you very much for your kind words. I am very happy at the moment. I know she will go one day, she is 12, which is old for a large dog but hopefully it wont be for a while yet.
