Madeleine McCann's parents have called for French police to let them view video footage of a reported sighting of their missing girl.
The request came as confusion surrounded a claim made by a Dutch tourist that she spotted the four-year-old in the southern French city of Montpellier.
Melissa Fiering, 18, believes she saw Madeleine - missing since she vanished from her family's holiday apartment in Portugal last May - at a service station on Friday.
She is sure it was the Leicestershire youngster because of how the child reacted when her name was called.
Miss Fiering also told a Dutch newspaper she saw a mark in the girl's eye similar to Madeleine's distinctive facial feature.
A man accompanying the child then left the restaurant with her a short time later, the teenager said.
On Wednesday, a French police official said investigators had examined CCTV footage from the restaurant and determined it was not Madeleine.
But on Thursday, a police official in France would only say that the girl caught on camera did not appear to be held against her will.
"These tapes are not very usable," the official told reporters, adding that "nothing can guarantee the result" of even a close study.
Madeleine, from Rothley, disappeared on May 3. Since then there have been several reported sightings of her around Europe and north Africa, all of which have proven to be false leads.
On the latest, Clarence Mitchell, spokesman for her parents, said: "We believe from indications we have received that the child is not Madeleine. However, if this video material is of very poor quality I would hope that the French authorities are certain that the child is not Madeleine before they rule it out.
"Kate and Gerry would still like to view this material if possible in the very near future to be sure themselves."
Montpellier Prosecutor Jean Philippe said the tapes could be turned over to British authorities, which must make a specific demand.

Thanks China. Yes very relevant. I think Panorama highlighted the amount of wells as a major concern. The thought Madeleine could be at the bottom of one of these makes me shudder. I dont believe the searches were at all organised or anywhere near extensive enough, to finish a ground search after 9 days does not seem comprehensive to me, especially if you look in comparison at the scale of the police operation for missing Shannon.

Just read your post and I remember having this exact debate on the DX and who was trying to rubbish it when I said these wells should be searched? Dadto3 aka doppelganger.
Apparently the fact that a 4 year old little girl is not important enough to dadto3 to warrant a thorough investigation of these wells and/or the two lakes be searched properly.
There is technology that could help both searches. Apart from that why don't they take these famous cadaver dog to the top of each one of these wells? If there is something down there then surely the dog may pick the scent up? Or perhaps they just do not want to find her because this will prove the McCann's innocence once and for all?

I have thought about it a bit and I really think the DX forum was shut down because they are being sued. And probably not for the comments on the forum either. That is why we can no longer access the articles. If they cant settle out of court, we will know soon enough.
Of course, is just my opinion, as I couldnt find any comments from the DX as to where it all was.

I remember the discussion well and some of the Portuguese posters felt it was an unreasonable use of resources, as there are so many wells, the search would be too extensive/open ended.
Also, there may be infra-red cameras available, that could be lowered down - just an idea.
Tinks just reminded me how Panorama highlighted the wells, also.

I was looking at the search for Shannon yesterday and apparently they have escalated since then.
Police were going through everyone's wheelie bins, searching houses, barns, garden sheds and outhouses. Searched a large pond and dived in a lake.
They were doing fingertip searches and the search was conducted within a half mile radius and I think it is now going to be extended. I saw very little of this in PDL after Madeleine vanished.
The Portuguese police who were meant to be checking the borders where sitting in their cars out of the rain!
Thank God they rescued that boy in the Italian well.
As for the remains of those poor little boys, whose father is in prison, I wonder if this will clear him?
Why are these wells in PDL left like this? Why haven't they been attended to and made safe? It is meant to be a holiday resort, they should be made safe. But then if Alsabella says not then I suppose that's it, hasn't she already discounted this?

Im not a big fan of conspiracies, like I do think the US have been to the moon and I dont think that the US govt bombed the world trade centre.
But with Madeleine, I dont think it was a random abduction by a lone paedophile. The predatory peadophile dont hide bodies very well (but then some do). I think Madeleine was targeted, the family watched and you know what I find most intriguing is that it was the last night of their holidays. Time had run out for the abductor, so they had to act. Probably knew it too. Too me, it is an inside job (someone connected with the resort).
I dont think it was the McCanns that were the targets, just Madeleine. So I do think it is child abuse related (maybe even abducted to order).
But I think the people behind it are very dangerous (not the actual abductors but the ringleaders) and that is where the conspiracy comes in. Child trade is very big business. Look up any of the web sites on child labour/slaves etc and prepare to cry. Very evil people have a lot of money at stake.

You know the one thing that has not been tried. Silence all round. A big risk cos it would be hard to roll the publicity wheels again. But, if its a pro paed hit, silence is the entire cases best friend to raise a weak link or voice in any given chain.
It has to be remembered this is about power, control and feeling like nobodies as well as the sad sexual attraction to infants if she has been hit by a paed gang.

I remember reading comment about how tidy the appartment was and that it did not look lived in. Well, if it was me and I was returning home the next day, I would have a good tidy up and try to leave things how I found them. Yet, some people cannot seem to understand that. I would not like to see how they live lol
dineh h. It is how it goes, sadly and wrongly. It is every child and mari too. Children cannot be wrapped in cotton wool, if that happens the parent themselves is killing the child from the inside out.
I remember the despicable posts about mari that her parents had arranged her supposed disappearance etc etc. Sad.
Unfortunately, there is going to be no relieve for the McCanns until Madeleine is found and it is proven to these people they were not to blame, and unfortunately even then the ignoramus will still blame them.
It is again, innate. A mothers job in particular [and the parents child] is to keep a child alive/protected, yet every parent has to take risks of some kind.
I took the risk of letting one merely go to sleep, he is not here anymore and even though it was proven nothing other than innocent by end of that same said day, there was still aspersion cast by a sad few. It is a fact that has to be risen above.
Albeit, i do realise when it is a natural death it is night and day between what the parents of abducted children go through, the rottweillers simply have a bigger unsavoury cake to bite at then.
I'm not sure it could ever alleviate the foul taste in their mouths though:-)

Also being the mother of three children myself, i know how important it is to keep on top of this, especially when you are away, or you will never find anything, what is wrong with being tidy anyway?
But hey if the place was untidy don't you think that the same people criticizing them for being tidy, would be laying into them for being dirty and untidy? Just as being tidy makes them child killers, so would being untidy!

Mine are all grown up now, but we have the grandchildren. I always found it vital to be tidy with them and as you say, they were going home the next day they would have been packing it all up anyhow.
I saw control in the Christmas vid and the level of tidiness, lack of 'whoop' when kids opening presents tbh. But that type of control is common and a way of life to many many people. doesn't mean killers at all.
I'm a tidy person by nature and like everything clean and in order and i know if i leave my joint for 5 mins when all kids in, it can be a bombsite altogether! I have to live with that at times cos demands are too high, but with 3 kids, even under 5, its easy to stay tidy all the time.
Holiday, i tidy as i go too. You enjoy the holiday more if all is in order and you can just shut the lids and zip up when yuou need to go......
We all have our own ways and circumstances and none of this is evidence at all.
I've seen reports both ways, the apartment was a mess, the apartment was immaculate. I'd verge on thinking it would be immaculate cos with 3 under 5 it has to be that way cos bacterias will spread so fast...
But all this verges on the cleanliness is next to godliness myth. It is irrelevant.
Before I go, just like to point out in the "Taxi" post the quote that.. "Recalling the possibility of having a refugee in any of the Yatch or have neen transported abroad!" Does this suggest that Madeleine could have been taken abroad by yacht, confirming my suspicions!

About control over Christmas - well I must be a right control freak.
1st December, the tree and trimmings go up.
During the course of the next two weeks or so, all the presents are wrapped and placed under the tree.
If the house was not in order and lots of jobs outstanding, I would not be very relaxed. I even have the chandeliers cleaned.
All veg and trimmings for the Christmas dinner are prepared the night before. The table is set and the fires in the lounge and dining room are prepared and ready for lighting.
I could go on and on.
Anyway, I sure would not want to be ripped to pieces for wanting to be organised and relaxed for what I want to be an enjoyable family Christmas.
Even when my boys were young, I was pretty much the same, except their presents were safetly locked away.

I am not tidy at all (thank goodness my partner is) but on Xmas day, the place was spotless, as so many people come over. By Xmas night, it was full of toys etc and my children have a toy room. No one should place any credence on the fact that the lounge was tidy in the video.. Also, dont even know if it the McCanns house and not a friend's or grandparents.
As for the tidy apartment. If they were leaving early and had to check out, all was probably packed except for the clothes/personal items for the next day.
I can tell you that with two toddlers, I cant leave it to the last minute and I am not an organised or tidy person by nature. And they had three of them.

Has anyone noticed that I am getting used to the site and that my posts are not as slow as they used to be?
This is precisely what i mean Chinadoll, we all have our own ways doesnt make one way or another wrong - or suspicious.
Organised and clean is not what im getting at. something else altogether, go back and read what i said;-)
Hell, i have done every Christmas doing all the shopping christmas eve and still christmas day has been totally organised and the place immaculate, done in a day! but, im very used to high level fast org, lifelong and through past work.
However, this year, i pushed beyond my own limit, thought i could do the same with 6 and not 5 and on my own lmfao. I will be the first to say the kids had a ball, but in reality it was a disaster. Unlike other years, i couldnt get near the kitchen, i was beyond exhausted after almost a week with no sleep etc and i ended up in tears, which is so not me at all, by 5 oclock cos it just wasnt how i normal have things for them at all. Then i bucked up and thought, okay, there is a lesson for you S for next year, you cant do this in a day anymore lol - take a week at least next year eh;-)
The point im making is it is all irrelevant....
It does not matter what they ways are, it doesnt make a killer...

You are absolutely right about the irrelevance of things like the state of the room.
The other irrelevant things that keep popping up are
- the McCanns going to the pool the day after Madeleine went missing. (probably told to stay at the resort and couldnt stand being in the room for one more second)
- apparently one day after a press conference Kate took her arm away from Gerry and walked off. (this is one from Alsabella - I told her maybe Kate was just upset and wanted to be by herself)
- Kate looks to Gerry during interviews. (not for approval, for support in my opinion)
etc etc.
All of these things fuel those ridiculous allegations. How people act and why is not predetermined and thank god everyone is different and act differently.
And none of this is evidence.
And it was exactly that sort of crap that Alsabella put into that vile letter to Mrs Healey.

Well to me Chinadoll. Madeleines disappearance has superceded God himself. People shy from God whether they believe in him or not. And, this poor little girl and her family have been fully utilised cos they fit the bill perfectly, her parents being doctors, [Gods in the eyes of the conspirators] and all that for every single person to voice thier own fears, anxieties, vulnerabilities, rages, etc etc. They are merely a vehicle to the antimcanns, it is a crying shame all round. No wonder such lunacy is afoot, the World and its neighbour is out to achieve right to exist through Madeleine.
The McCanns said look into her eyes, unfortunately, all these people chose to view THROUGH her eyes instead........and explore their own shit!

You know the toolbar on the side of the screen that allows you to scroll up and down?
Well, I was spending forever scrolling up and down by placing the cursor on the up and down arrows - hubby saw me and told me how to use the little box under the up arrow.

I only found out last night on here. But on Alsabella's blog is an open letter to Mrs Healey. Some are saying it was actually sent to Mrs Healy (I really hope not). But so you know it to be true, look on the site yourself.
If you scroll back to last nights posts (on the previous topic on this blog) you can see our opinion on this. Most of us were shaking with rage and even now as I type, the heat is rising.

If you have time you should go and do a basic computer course, one that focuses on email, internet etc. I have been thinking about it because I would like to know more about things like facebook, utube etc. I only recently found out about these blogs. But am too busy to set one up. (I know I am sitting on here at the moment but I am really working but am having trouble concentrating so am playing hookie and just responding to emails). Sadly, me being me, I will have to make up the time I have missed at work.

That is why I fear for Shannon's mother. For most of us, if people start digging around in our past, something that can be construed to be bad will come up. Or maybe something bad. Especially for people who live a different type of lifestyle.

I am 43 and didnt touch a computer until I had started working.
After I started on computers, I had to go and learn to type. I have since done a degree in computing and work in the industry. (All done as a mature age student).
So it is not too late for you.
This is what I keep saying, there has nothing been nothing bad about the McCann's coming out and I think that alone has annoyed those that want them to be guilty!
Apparently Gerry following Kate to NZ to propose is not romantic it is controlling and he sneers this is why he is a child killer!
Like you say it has absolutely floored them that there is no dirt to dish on the McCann's this and the fact that they have worked hard and become professionals apparently is enough to hang them!

I, on the other hand am self employed and when getting established, had no need to become computer literate. Thought I was good on the electric typewriter, but that was it.
It was the internet that changed that and I have, at least, managed to navigate (clumsily) around that.
I am self taught, so things can only get better. Mind you, if I really put my mind to it, I agree, I would learn quick.
Still self employed and still not dependent on using the computer -
so never had the inclination to bother much.

Of course, controlling people can and do behave like that, but you cannot judge one action, in isolation, and conclude that it amounts to "controlling behaviour", which tends to manifest itself in a pattern over a period of time

I just took a side trip and it seems we didnt get the gist of the portugese article. The crucial part (according to guess who) is that the time the taxi driver says is 8.10 on May 3. That is an hour before Gerry says he checked on her.
So obviously (according to some) he is either deranged, confused or Gerry and Kate are lying.
My take is that maybe he is telling the truth but the time was actually 9.10. Kate & Gerry got to the tapas bar at about 8 (so say the other people at the tapas bar in interviews they gave directly to the press from here in Britain).
Also, if he only just gave his evidence to the PJ (why is he even in the paper, surely it is illegal to speak), then he may even have the wrong day. It may be the day after.
Maybe he is confused about the day and time. But even if day and time are correct, this still proves abduction. But then I cant come up with a reasonable explanation of how Madeleine could have been abducted while her parents were still at home.

I am however, quite expert on male psyche. There is absolutely no doubt whatsoever Gerry McCann is a controlling male. You defeat their argument to their innocence to suggest other cos he has every classic trait of a controlling many anyone could think off at all.

Re the control thing - it's not an exclusively male trait, is it? So I'm unsure what your expert staus in the male psyche has to do with anything.
I'm not making any arguments re Gerry McCanns' innocence or guilt. I don't presume to know anything about his personal life or behaviour, so I'll leave that to you and the other experts.
I am simply saying that you cannot make any kind of "diagnosis" based on that one incident, about which you or I know little.

DianeH/Anony - I see Gerry and Kate as two highly intelligent people who have worked hard to become doctors. I think Gerry is confident, comfortable as a public speaker but I do not see him as controlling. I see both parents as trying to keep it together as they go through the most hellish experience of their lives.

I agree with you about the McCanns.
Although sometimes when I look at Kate, I see this deep sorrow and wonder how she lives with it. That is why I am always amazed when I read that she shows no emotion. To me, the effort to control her emotions shows on her face all the time. Gerry doesnt seem to have to work so hard but men are much better at hiding their true emotions than women. They are forced to it from an early age. You know, dont cry, be a big boy. I find myself doing it all the time to my son (2 yo) and then I pick him up and cuddle him to let him know its alright.
I hope that Madeleine is getting cuddles and told its alright, wherever she is.
I posted alright Diane, harshest post by far to anyone on the net ive handed out. It was deleted, pronto. I think the mirror held up to her was one she could not handle, but i shall give her mirror some more. Diane - i just saw your post about Kate - it is something I always said on DE when people said they saw her as cold and emotionless. I replied that I looked in her eyes and I saw the sadness, the horror of what she was going through... I agree 100% with your view on Kate.
